【Exhibition introduction】
Invented in the 15th century, copperplate is a gravure printing of copper plates, which forms concavo-convex patterns on the surface of the plates by means of cutting tool engraving or acid corrosion, and then the ink or color applied on the steel plates is used to adhere to the paper.
It has been introduced into China for more than 200 years, and the 18th to 19th centuries are the "golden age" of the development of European copperplate.Eighty works in the exhibition are from this period, and they were painted by the English painter Thomas alom.In the eyes of foreigners, China in the 19th century was a big country with many world-famous historical sites. They were amazed by the magnificent royal roads, the crisscrossing canals, the huge single-arch Bridges and the ancient pagodas.Across the mountains, through the ravines and ravines, across the great river, the Great Wall of China made them wonder.The magnificent temples, the poetic gardens, and the magnificent scenery made them imagine endlessly.They used the art creation of copperplate to show the national scenery, custom, art, religious ceremony and political system of late qing China, so as to reflect the differences between the Chinese nation and other nations in the world, as well as the traditional customs and way of life of ancient eastern countries.
